PROF. LOREN DEMERATH
Now "semi-retired" and living in central Massachusetts, Demerath was the longtime Chair of the Sociology Department at Centenary College of Louisiana, and author of Explaining Culture: the Social Pursuit of Subjective Order.
Among his accomplishments was being the lead professor of a course entitled, "Explaining the Emergence of Order: The Universe, Life, Consciousness, and Society," working with faculty members of different colleges and universities across the South in chemistry, computer science, economics, philosophy, and english.
Demerath is now working on a book entitled, "Good Energy," that describes the emergence and self-organization of complexity as the result of processing information as driven by the thermodynamic dispersion of energy. The book also shows how our own participation in emergence, including society and meaning, makes life fulfilling, and motivates our desire for ethical behavior.
